What Neuroscience Says About Readiness
You’re probably been here: You spent months securing the perfect keynote speaker. The content is brilliant. The production is flawless. And then the audience shuffles in from lunch, tired, distracted, and completely unreceptive to everything about to be delivered.
This happens at almost every event. And it's entirely avoidable.
Here's what the science tells us:
The brain doesn't switch into learning mode automatically. It needs to be primed. And three of the things that prime it effectively are movement, breath, and focused attention, because each one triggers a cascade of neurochemicals that are essential for what comes next.
Dopamine sharpens focus and increases receptivity to new information. Endorphins elevate mood and reduce the mental resistance that comes with fatigue. Oxytocin builds trust and connection, creating the psychological safety people need to truly engage.
Setting the stage for: attention, retention and implementation.
That sequence doesn't happen by accident. It happens by design.
Just three minutes of intentional movement or breathwork before a key session can shift an audience from distracted and depleted to present, open, and ready to receive. It's not a warm up act. It's a performance strategy.
Your speakers deserve a receptive room. Your sponsors deserve an engaged audience. And your guests deserve to actually absorb and implement what they came to learn.
Priming makes all of that possible.
Which is why I’m so excited to be bringing this to IMEX America this year! I'll be on the show floor Inspiration Hub priming audiences before featured speakers take the stage, leading a Reset The Room: Attention, Energy, And Engagement In Real Time session, and facilitating three sessions inside the Circadian Cove.
If you're attending IMEX America this year I would love to see you there!
Because the moment before the moment matters more than most people realize. And it's time we designed for it.
